- Drug possession: Typically, my defense strategies surrounding drug possession involve questioning whether there was actual possession (dominion and control) of the drug.
- Drug distribution or Distribution Trafficking is simply passing illegal substances from one person to another. . An exchange of money is not necessary. Defense in distribution cases is challenging, because they usually involve either a confidential informant (CI) or an undercover police officer.
- Drug manufacturing: If a person cooks cocaine into crack, or possesses the ingredients for meth, it is considered drug manufacturing, a serious offense that requires creative defense strategies and an experienced drug charge defense attorney.
- Marijuana cultivation: This is a serious charge as well; prior to 2010, growing even single marijuana plant was a felony in Colorado. Now, one to six plants is a Class One Misdemeanor. Any more is a felony.
- Marijuana possession: the Denver municipal ordinance prohibiting possession of marijuana still sets the amount at one ounce or less even though the state offense has increased the amount to two ounces for the lowest offense level. Even though the penalties for the city ordinance violation and the state petty offense are only a $100 fine, the negative long-term consequences can be monumental.
- Prescription fraud: Prescription fraud cases also involve allegations of forgery and identity theft for illegally obtaining or possessing the prescription.
- Special Offender: There are enhanced punishments for drug crimes that are second offenses (“special offender”) or higher, including those that involve repeat offenses and possession of drugs and weapons.

Even though the severity and quantities for drug possession have changed and made less severe, a conviction of any degree of felony or misdemeanor will have serious long term consequences beyond any sentence by the court.
